About

My name is DenaĆ© Lawson. I've been teaching since 2013. I was born and raised in the Dallas area of Richardson, Texas. I then went on to study International Business at Texas Tech (Wreck 'Em!) with minors in Spanish and Mass Communications. With that minor study, I got to live in Spain for a semester and absolutely loved it! I'm married and we have a miniature pig named Hamlet. My husband and I love traveling together! We have been to Spain, Italy, Africa, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Costa Rica, Mexico, and the Virgin Islands. I also enjoy eating food and candy, knitting, dancing, and reading.

At this point, you are probably wondering where teaching fits in. Well, first I should mention I come from a family of teachers. My mother, my sister, my brother-in-law, aunts, uncles… many, many, teachers in the family. So, I went back to school at the University of Texas at Dallas to receive my teacher certification. During my time at UTD, I student-taught within my own school district of Richardson ISD, where I met students and families from all walks of life. Student teaching there reaffirmed that I made the right decision for my life. After teaching for two years in Richardson, my husband received a job with the Attorney General’s Office in Austin and here we are! I finished my Master's Degree in Educational Administration at Lamar University in 2016. I'm currently a PhD student at Texas State University, and I'm studying Education-School Improvement.  I'm still undecided on what career choice to make after I finish my doctoral program. But I know that I want to inspire a new generation of students and future educators to take control of their learning, fight social injustice, and use their voices to ignite change.
